We’ve been coming to the Jersey Shore together for quite a number of years, but since we’ve gotten into birding we’ve started to notice the different shore birds. But this year was a bit different. When we arrived, we noticed a big part of the dunes up the coast were blocked off because Piping Plovers were nesting!
We weren’t sure when the best time to see these little ones would be so we went out in the morning, afternoon and late evening to see if we could get lucky.
Finally at the end of the week, after lunch, we noticed a wildlife ranger near one of the dunes and sure enough, little plovers came out of hiding – a mom, dad and a few chicks. Needless to say, I booked it back to the rental to snag my camera and was lucky enough to capture some photos of them.
