As I mentioned in my February Birds roundup, we made a trip out to the Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge for a chance to see the Short Eared Owl for the first time. They are most active in the winter months in the Hudson Valley and especially at the grasslands. We bundled up on a cold afternoon, just prior to sundown and joined a bunch of other birders capturing a few very active owls.
Here’s a “small” collection out of the hundreds of photos I took that day. Was great to see them and also get some practice capturing birds in flight!
