Birding: April 2026

April saw the return of Tuesday morning birding at Minnewaska State Park, which we were so excited to rejoin. Not only because we got to see our local birding friends again, but we added a new lifer to our list: the Red Crossbill (chewing on some gravel in the parking lot). Back at home, on the last day of the month we saw the return of our Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds. We also had a rare instance of seeing a warbler in our yard! The Yellow-Rumped Warbler jumped around, snacking from tree to tree (props to Erin’s keen eye for tracking it).

I’m still trying to figure out how I want to organize my recaps, but I feel like I’m going to get in the habit of posting by bird, rather than by location, so there may be different habitats for each species.
