My friend Max has been doing this really wonderful thing for fellow gamers in our gaming group for their birthdays – rather than buying them a mini, he’s been painting up something to match their army as a gift. He found it as a great way to try new techniques or paint new miniatures.
For his birthday, I wanted to return the favor and used it as an excuse to finally paint some Tyranids. The first of these was actually something he could use on the tabletop with his army (the second, was a repainted joytoy action figure).

I started off browsing some Reddit groups to figure out what would be a good addition to his force, something he didn’t own and would benefit having more of. It seemed like the Neurolictor was at the top of most folks lists so I went with it.
I did my best to match his Hivefleet Leviathan’s scheme, leveraging a mix of acrylics and oils. I didn’t have exact matches to a few colors, but think I got pretty close. He really favored speed for his scheme and I gotta say, this one came together pretty quickly.
Here’s some Work in Progress bringing the mini to life…

And lastly, here he is next to his brother (Max’s mini is on the left)
