Early Friday morning, before a round of meetings at work and while the weather is nice, my wife and I took a morning walk around the Nyquist-Harcourt Wildlife Sanctuary in New Paltz, NY. Earlier in the week, I was checking eBird to see what sightings folks have been seeing and noticing a few lifers I’d like a chance to see for myself – namely the Wood Duck and Belted Kingfisher.
Happily, we saw the Wood Duck (!) but only heard a Kingfisher. Along with them, we added a few other lifers to our lists: Green Heron, Common Merganser and American Bittern! Quite a successful morning. Along with the new finds, the Red-Winged Blackbirds were going nuts and posing at every corner, so I had to capture a few of them.
